Sil Sanders has
trained dogs in tracking since 1980. His own dogs are Westies.
Four of them earned their TDX and one also earned his VST and
CT.
Sil has had Westies
since 1960. In 1984, his Alicia became the first Westie to earn
a TDS and in 1991, Mr. Q became the second. QT earned his TDX in
2002 at just 17 months of age and then Sil and QT took several
years of enjoyable training experimentation to learn how to
successfully negotiate a VST track.
He
once had the privilege of handling a Golden to her TD while her
owner and trainer recuperatd from surgery. He has coached to a
TDX dogs from five of the AKC groups, including the first Bernese Mountain Dog, three Newfoundlands, and
several dogs that
everyone had given up on but their owner.
In 1998 he published
Enthusiastic Tracking, the Step-by-Step Training Handbook, 2nd
Ed. which collected together the training wisdom of numerous
tracking trainers into a coherent training process which is
widely used in the tracking community today.
In addition to
tracking, Sil and his Westies participate with some success in
Obedience, Rally, Agility and Earthdog. With his wife, Anne, he
has bred over 30 breeder-owner-handled Champions.
